Matrimandir or the temple of the mother is perhaps the greatest symbol of karma yoga.
It is a lot of symbolism that is associated with its structure and it's architecture. The temple was built in 35 years and is in the form of a huge sphere surrounded by twelve petals. The geodesic dome is covered by golden discs and reflects sunlight, which gives the structure its characteristic radiance. Inside the central dome is a meditation hall known as the inner chamber - this contains the largest optically-perfect glass globe in the world. The Matrimandir, and its surrounding gardens in the central Peace Area, is open to the public by appointment.
The four main pillars that support the structure of Matrimandir, and carry the Inner Chamber, have been set at the four main directions of the compass. These four pillars are symbolic of the four aspects of the mother as described by Sri Aurobindo and are named after these four aspects - Maheshwari, Mahalakshmi, Mahakali, Mahasaraswati.
Entry is free and one can take a easy walk through a forest area to get here. There are busses which ply on the route as well. It does get hot and humid in summers. Best time to visit will be winters.

Too relaxing place...must go atleast once..visitors area is great...cafeteria is too good...for inner piece you have to try at once...

It's in middle of forest area with full of nature and it gives u a glimpse of aurovilli where it doesn't belong to one person and it belongs to all....the humanity which is superb and work is going on anybody can go through they're having a free ride transportation....too

As always this is a place that has an air of calm as soon as you enter the gates. Going back again to visit the the matrimandir. This is a very special place and feels different. Must spend a day when in pondi & the cafeteria inside have very decent food priced well :) l.
