आरा जिले के जगदीशपुर में 1857 के नायक बाबू कुंवर सिंह का किला है. यहीं रहते हुए अंग्रेजों के खिलाफ रणनीति बनाई. अंगेज सेना में भर्ती सिपाहियों ने जब अंग्रजों के खिलाफ विद्रोह कर दिया तो उन सिपाहियों के नेतृत्व कुवंर सिंह ने ही किया. उन्होंने आरा शहर पर आक्रमण किया और उसे अंग्रेजों से मुक्त कर लिया. इस दौरान कई बार अंग्रेजों ने उनसे यद्ध किया मगर हर बार अंग्रेजों को हार ही मिली. युद्ध के दौरान अंग्रेजों की एक गोली कुवंर सिंह की बांह में लगी तो उन्होंने तलवार से अपनी ही बांह काट दी और उसे गंगा नदी में फेंक दिया. जब कुंवर सिंह युद्ध लड़ रहे थे तो उनकी उम्र उस समय 80 साल थी. उन्होंने इसी उम्र में अंग्रेजों को एक बार नहीं, बल्कि कई बार हराया. युद्ध के दौरान अंग्रेजों ने उनके किले पर कब्जा कर लिया था, तब घायल कुंवर बाबू बने जगदीशपुर पहुँच कर अंग्रेजो को मार भगाया और किले से यूनियन जैक उखाड़ फेंका.
