This majestic temple is built on a rocky hill with around 400 steps to reach main temple. And there is a motorable road reaches to midway of the hill from where it is 150 steps to climb.
As one gets near the temple the view of the town, the pond is unbelievably beautiful.
This temple is more than 1000 years old and the inscriptions in the foothills speaks about the history of the temple which dates back to the ancient times.
The temple was built during the Hoysala kingdom. It is believed that Yoga Narasimha Swamy idol was installed by Baktha Prahlada , son of Hiranyakashapa.

The Yoga Narasimha Swamy Temple is the most famous attraction in Melkote. The temple is dedicated to Lord Narasimha, who is believed to be an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The temple is known for its beautiful architecture, intricate carvings, and stunning idols. The temple complex also includes a large pond, which is believed to have medicinal properties.
One of the most unique aspects of the temple is the daily rituals that are performed here. The temple priests perform a special ritual called "Panchamruta Abhishekam," which involves offering five sacred items to the deity. The ritual is believed to have great spiritual significance and is a must-see for visitors to the temple.
Apart from the temple, Melkote is also known for its beautiful nature trails, which offer visitors a chance to enjoy the natural beauty of the region. Visitors can also enjoy a wide range of local delicacies, including the famous "puliyogare" and "mosaranna."
