It's located few kilometre away from niali town. Located in a village environment but the surrounding place of temple is well maintained. The temple is old and the architecture seems like puri temple but in smaller size. A garden present next to the temple and one of the single wooden block is present next to that. Here the one of the idol of Lord Jagannath present along with ashoka chakra symbol which is absolutely amazing (if anyone visit there please try to find out). In the entrance a huge bull statue is there which is also a major attraction.
If anyone planning a road trip in around includ it along with Lord mahadev temple.

Sobhaneswara Temple at Niali, Cuttack is a masterpiece of Eastern Ganga Dynasty under Prachi valley civilization. This temple dedicated to lord Shiva built in 12th century reign of Anangabhima Deva II (1190-1198AD) last part of this century. This temple has huge natamandap, Jagamohana assembly and similar parswadevata's such as Kartika, Ganesha, Parvati, the most attractive is it's ruch carvings on every wall of Jagamohana and main tower in which one can see the life cycle of a human evolution starting from the birth to the old age time. However an interesting story come out through its inscription that is located on eastern wall of the jagamohana records that the temple was built by a Nagavamsi king named Vaidyanatha, most likely a vassal of the Ganga rulers and he possibly renovated/ repaired or maintained the temple after the fall of the Gangas.
Situated at Niali village nearly 38kms from both Bhubaneswar and Cuttack easily accessible from SH60.

Niali Madhava / Durga Madhava Temple Enroute Angeswar Mahadev - Pitapara from Chourasi . We also crossed the Holy River Prachi which is sadly looking more like a seasonal canal . Angeswara Mahadev temple - is 10th century architecture built in red brick and very in need of attention to repairs. This area has some of the largest collections of Brick Temples - which CHW will come to visit them.
A short distance travel we reached Niali Madhaba / Durga Madhaba Temple - in the Madhava Village of Niali . Built in the middle of 13th Century by the Ganga King Bhanudeva - I , a very close replica of the Jagannath Puri temple and Ananta Vasudev Temple in Bhubaneswar.
About the Deity - The presiding deity, Madhava is very unique. The upper left arm holds Gada, lower left Sudarshana Chakra, upper right full blown Lotus and lower right Conch. In the Jagamohana a rare image of Durga is found. She is worshipped as the sister of Madhava. Many festivals like Janmashtami, Ekadashi and special festivals in Maagha and Vaishakha month are observed here. This also happens to be Lord Jagannath Maternal Uncle's Home.
The main attraction here is the very old idol of Garuda which is made of black sand stone. It is adored with AstakulaNagas very artistically carved. This is a unique Garuda in Odisha
The Temple is built in Pancharatha design. Three buildings, namely Vimana, Jagamohana and Natamandapa. The Vimana is of Rekha Deula, Jagamohana is of Pidha deula and the Natamandapa is flat-roofed and renovated by Archaeological Survey of India. The motifs are of different serpents, naayikas, devatas etc. The architecture of this temple is very much similar to that of Sakshigopal Temple of Puri and Ananta Vasudev temple of Bhubaneswar. You can find the images of Dasa-Avatar of Vishnu, a big Sudarshan Chakra made up of Black granite stone and also the image of Ananta Sayana of lord Vishnu in the walls of Jagamohana and Natamandapa. The outer walls of the temple are carved with beautiful old Pauranic images from Krishna Lila & Mahabharata.
The Exterior part of the temple - Decorated with architectural motifs such as khakharamundis, pidhamundis, rekhamundis, naga-nagi pilasters, bho-motifs; divinities such as Dikpalas and their consorts, Dasavatara, Trivikrama, Narasimha, Varaha etc; decorative and secular motifs like- gajavidala, nara-vidala, nayikas, sikshadana motif, royal figures, scroll motifs, lattice designs, amorous couple - Which drew a lot of interest with CHW members .
Location - Take the route from Phulnakhara towards Nialli . The temple, in the centre of the village Madhava is located at a distance of 1.5 kms towards the southeast of Panimal chowk on the Niali-Madhava (SH.-60) road.
