This is the First Medical College of Barak Valley Assam. It is on the way of NIT Silchar & Assam University Silchar.Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH), established in 1968, is a government-run medical college cum hospital located in Silchar in southern Assam, one of the oldest medical college of North East India. It is the only referral hospital in the southern part of Assam, also referred to as the Barak Valley, and serves neighbouring states including Mizoram, North Tripura, West Manipur and South Meghalaya.

With the effort of late freedom fighter Shri Moinul Hoque Choudhury along with the other institutes and infrastructures, Silchar Medical college came into existence in 15 August 1968. Prof. Rudra Goswami took charge of the Silchar Medical College as a first principal. 24/7 including Sunday. Casualty department: 2pm - 8am acts as the emergency department. Approx 806 beds.

Eco friendly environment, Doctors good, well behaved, longsuffering. Rare of them may not. Hospital wards are cleaned on a daily basis.

24×7 emergency service is available. ONLY REFERAL CENTRE ON BARAK VALLEY PART OF ASSAM WITH ALL THE SPECIALTIES, ICU AND TWO SUPERSPECIALITY BRANCHES ARE FUNCTIONAL.
