It is the town that boasts and takes pride as Bengali is the official language here. It is the land of 11 language martyrs, who laid down their lives for the sake of Bengali language. It is the 2nd largest city in Assam. The Railway station is the place where 11 martyrs layed their lives. People call it Bhasha Shahid Railway Station. The station is not that big; on the early hours, the place remains mostly empty but at night, the place becomes very much crowded due to maximum trains coming and departing.

Largest city of Barak Valley. Administrative office, Courts, etc available here. Also various shopping malls like VISHAL, BIG BAZAR etc deals in most common or essential items. People of Barak Valley sell or purchase items from the most popular market FATAK BAZAR of Silchar.

The only railway station inside the Silchar town. Direct trains to Guwahati, Agartala, Dibrugarh, Delhi etc ply from here. It has 3 platforms active currently. Auto, e-rickshaw, taxi etc are available in large number outside the station. There is limited parking facility. Few food stalls are there inside the station, serving Paratha, Roti, Tea etc.
