I suggest you try the Butterscotch mishti there. I visited the place yesterday and tried it. It was one of a kind. Each piece is ₹20 but it is totally worth it. The sweet has butterscotch chips on top and tastes havenly. I'm not a huge fan of sweets but I surely recommend it.

History and the beautiful City of Joy go hand in hand. So it is no surprise that our favorite sweetshop, Sen Mahasay has a history of its own. It started off way back in the year 1897 as a small outlet in Fariapukur. In charge was a talented confectioner, Ashutosh Sen, who wasn’t a sweet-maker by profession and treated it more as a hobby. Even then, he successfully produced some of the finest sweets of the era and these were appreciated by stalwarts like Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay and Tara Shankar Bandopadhyay. The latter was even instrumental in naming the shop Sen Mahasay. The lip-smacking taste that delighted such prominent personalities continues to treat the foodie Bengalis. The best thing about Sen Mahasay is that they have remained true to their original recipes without tinkering much with the procedure. Prepared from the freshest and finest ingredients, they have maintained their quality over time and retained their customers. One of their best products since ages would have to be the iconic Khirer Chop. All about Khirer Chop It is a sweet-dish that is made from the finest of Kheer and fried in high-quality pure ghee. The aroma, the rich taste, and the heavenly after-taste make it one of their most sought-after items. Priced at INR 12, it is affordable and a fulfilling dessert to satisfy your soul. Interestingly, the lingering taste of my school days in late seventies and early eighties still remain the same even today. Other delicacies Sen Mahasay is well-known for some other classics like Abar Khabo sandesh, Rabri Sandesh, Monohara, Malai Chop, and Pink Pera. Their Mango sandesh during the summer months is nothing short of excellence and their nolen gur products in winter are what make winters special. Bengali cuisine is dominated by sweets. We eat them for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They are also an integral part of our celebrations. Our sweet varities are so vast that they will daunt even the most resolute gourmand! North Kolkata has a special place in our hearts when discussing sweets. It is home to some of the best sweet shops in the city. One of these legendary shops is Sen Mahasay Pvt Ltd. It has served us ambrosial candies for decades. It is put up at a stone's throw distance from our residence, near the Hatibagan outlet of Aminia at Fariapukur. It is accessible via various forms of public transport. Due to its proximity to our house, we have become regular customers. Apart from mouth-watering sweets, they also offer samosa (₹15) and Radhaballavi (₹15) that are perfect for breakfast and evening snacks. Among the sweets, kheer kadamba (₹20), soanpapdi (₹15), Darbesh (₹25), kora paaker sandesh (₹15–30), and jal bhora (₹20–25) are my favourites. They also purvey mishti doi and paneer at competitive rates. They also bring some luck! Last Saturday when we're enjoying the snacks, Mirabai won the first medal for India at the Tokyo Olympics. Superstition? Anything, for our motherland.
