Ponkunnu hills is one of the highest viewpoint in the Kozhikode district. As it is a midland laterite hill, we can enjoy the beauty of habitats like rocky grasslands, small forest patches with short trees and scrub. During the monsoon and winter, the area is full of greenery. While in the summer, the grasslands shine like a gold. That's why the name called 'Ponkunnu'. For birders and wildlife photographers, ponkunnu hill offers the presence of wide variety of birds and animals especially the raptors. Traditionally the hills are called to be mountain god's for locals. Many small streams are originated from the hill and it provides water throughout the year for locals. It is a better place for trekking. The hill offers beautiful sunrise and sunset. There is no restroom available here. Better time to visit is early morning and late evening. Night stay is not allowed here. Limited parking is available. Take water and food while come to here. No shops are available. Don't throw litters. Better to avoid speakers.

Pookunnu Hill station is located almost 1500 ft above sea level. Very good place for hangout with friends and family. Lot of streams are originating from this hill station. About 140 species of birds are found in this hill station. Sunset in Pookunnu Hill station is an incredible experience.

Fantastic place a piece of land that rises higher than everything surrounding it. It looks like a little bump in the Earth. Since theyre higher than everything around them, hills are good places to get a nice view. Hills are easier to climb than mountains.

One of best viewpoints at Kozhikode district of kerala. .. best time to visit : November to February ... During this months , morning early hours 6 - 8 am is the best time to visit ... Heavy mist on surrounding hills is a visual treat ... Carry your own water and snacks ... No shop at top .. a 1 km trek is needed to reach the top ... One can see Kozhikode city , koyilandy harbour , Kappad beach and malabar medical College from the top if the atmosphere is clear ... But beware of sadacharam ... One of the worst thing I experienced in Kozhikode ..some RSS guys are there to kill the vibe
