I took the Fontainhas tour with Nelson last Sunday. Nelson is a great host and has stories about each corner of this place. The tour ended with a relaxing session, we were told it was a surprise so I will not reveal it here :) This place has some really amazing stories. If you are a history geek, I would highly recommend taking this tour. Kids would enjoy this walk too. The tour started at sharp 4:30. Its usually hot at this hour hence please carry a water bottle, hats, sunscreen, etc if you are thinking of taking this tour in the next couple of weeks.

We did Old Goa Heritage Walk with Make it Happen and it was a very well organized tour. Our tour guide was Amreen Shaikh was very knowledgeable and we all thoroughly enjoyed her company. The tour started right on time and everything was explained to us in a very detailed manner. Its the tour of Old Goa, former capital city of the Portuguese colonial empire. Abandoned after the outbreak of a deadly epidemic in the mid 18th century it now have some of the oldest churches and monuments in the state, and has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We started with visit to the Viceroy’s Arch and The Gate of the Palace of Adil Shah. Then we visited to chapel of St. Catherine (the oldest chapel in Goa), the domed Church of St. Cajetan and the famed Basilica of Bom Jesus. All of the above have their own unique architectures and interesting stories, which was very fascinating. I'm glad to have participated in the above tour as it gives you the context of what actual goa is. If you are looking beyond booze and beaches in Goa, then this is the tour you guys must opt for. Totally worth it!!!

It was a spur of the moment decision to go for the Fountainhas Heritage walk and it was absolutely worth it! It feels as if I have carried a part of Goa back with me. MIH was very prompt in sending the details and our guide Norah vaz was just amazing!!! Her annecdotes and little facts about the roosters on old Goan houses, the oyster shells used instead of window panes, etc made the tour very interesting. The stopovers at the local souvenir shop, the bakery and the art gallery made the trip even more memorable! And the surprise at the end was the icing on the cake! Norah was really patient and she made it a point to explain the history and details of all the locations we visited!! I would definitely recommend this Heritage walk to anyone who wants to understand the history of Goa. It's not just the beaches you know ?

Fond of heritage and history? Explore a lesser known part of Goa with Make it Happen.co.in. I chose to do a Heritage Walking Tour of Chandor (Chandrapur), the erstwhile capital of the Kadamba dynasty and a once-bustling point of trade. Through a 2.5 hour tour that includes very little walking and more driving, we explored two drop dead gorgeous houses from the 15th and 16th centuries as well as a protected heritage site and a chapel that has an interesting tale attached to it. From getting a glimpse at St. Francis Xavier’s toenail to exploring a passage opened by a trap door and wondering how much money those houses LOADED with precious heirlooms cost, you’ll fall in love with history again. Our guide, Pawan was knowledgeable, great at answering questions and extremely personable which made the tour a fun way to spend a morning. If you’re visiting Goa and even if you stay here but are oblivious to what Goa holds beyond the North Goa beach strip, a tour or two with Make It Happen.co.in should be on your itinerary.

Add a different flavour to your sun-and-sand Goa holiday by adding this trip to your itinerary. We had a confident, friendly and very knowledgeable storyteller Nelson Menezes to take us through the trip, who knew all about the history of the island, and regaled us with many interesting facts and anecdotes. Special mention for the beautiful rock-cut tank at the original site of Saptakoteshwar temple. We took the evening tour and had the opportunity to be hosted by the gracious Mrs Agnes Monterio in her beautiful Indo-Portuguese home. A friend of Nelson also entertained us with her beautiful voice as she sang local songs in her melodious voice while playing the ukulele! A truly memorable experience, highly recommended!
