Tipu’s Palace, also known as the Lal Mahal, is situated in Srirangapatna near the Sri Ranganathaswamy temple. This double storey ornate palace was built in 1791 and was used by Tipu Sultan as his summer retreat. After the death of Tipu Sultan, British used this palace as a secretariat till 1867. A short distance from Water Gate was the Lal Mahal, one of Tipu’s palaces. The British desccribed this palace as "very handsome". It had a regal audience hall or the durbar hall with three rows of magnificient pillars supporting a roof two stories above, a library and zenana. The palace also had sophisticated underground piping. It is said that Tipu had chained four tigers near its entrance. Col Wellesley destroyed lal mahal after the seige of Srirangapattana. The palace was called ‘Lal Mahal Palace’ which was demolished now and only ruins were left now. It is believed that from this Tipu’s Palace, there is a secret way which leads to another Tipu’s Mahal in Sakleshpur.

HISTORIC PLACE THAT MUST VISIT, IT WAS THE MOST MAJOR PALACE OF MYSORE TIGER, THAT WE MUST SEE ONES AND MUST STUDY THE REAL HISTORY OF TIPU SULTAN, THE TIGER OF MYSORE, FREEDOM FIGHTER this palace not exist now, its destroyed by Britishm, but the basement and structure still exist. this palace was the Control point of Tipu's empire. it has a under ground tunnel way linked to nearby Temple(temple made by him for his troops,) to Palakkad fort(around 300KM far) his summer palace etc. it was the place where Tipu Sultan, manage his empire and train troops. he made a temple nearby this palace too for his Hindu soldiers , that he protected till now. this is the best example of Tipu Sultan's responsibility towards other religions and friendship between religions and casts. there was a tunnel with linking several places in Mysore and outside Mysore including his Fort at Palakkad, 300 km far from this palace inside the palace is the best example of the technology and planning of Mysore Tiger.

Isn't it crazy how all the palaces, Museums and temples are saved and secured by the government but destroyed only Tipu Sultan's palace and left the ruins of it. Shame on the government for doing such a thing.

This is pretty much the foundation of what it could have been in the past. The place is well maintained with a guard now. The place isn't worth a travel but can easily be a stop on the way to something bigger.
