Gaya Junction railway station is a junction station serving the city of Gaya, the headquarters of Gaya district and Magadh Division in the Indian state of Bihar. Gaya is in the Mughalsarai railway division of the East Central Railway zone. Grand Chord rail-line that connects Howrah and New Delhi passes through Gaya. It lies between Mughalsarai Junction on the Delhi side and Dhanbad Junction on the Howrah side. It is located at 24°48′13″N 84°59′57″E.[1] It has an elevation of 117 metres (384 ft). Gaya is connected with most of the states through rail network. Very few trains do-not stop here- sealdah duranto, bhubaneswar duranto, jharkhand sampark kranti and Odisha sampark kranti. There are also two other broad-gauge train lines from Gaya, one to Patna and the other to Kiul Junction. The city has two major railway stations: Gaya Junction & Manpur Junction. Gaya is well connected with Patna, Jehanabad, Biharsharif, Rajgir, Islampur, Nawada through daily passenger and express train services.
History
Several years before the Grand Chord was built, a connection from the Howrah–Delhi main line to Gaya was developed in 1900 and the South Bihar Railway Company (operated by EIR) had laid a line from Lakhisarai to Gaya in 1879. The Grand Chord was opened on 6 December 1906.

The city of Gaya is a holy place of Hinduism, with a great number of Hindu deities represented in the engravings, paintings and carvings of its shrines. Of particular importance are the sites in the city associated with Vishnu, in particular the Phalgu River and the shrine Vishnupad Mandir, or Vishnupada, which is marked by a large footprint of Lord Vishnu engraved in a basalt block.[11] Gaya is the location at which Rama, with Sita and Lakshmana, offered pind-daan for his father, Dasharatha. Gaya has since remained a site of key importance for the performance of the pind-daan ritual.[8][9]
Gaya is considered to be one of the most ideal places to perform the Śrāddha. (A shraddh is the Hindu ritual that one performs to pay homage to one's 'ancestors', especially to one's dead parents). As per Hindu belief system, it is believed that a person goes to hell if he dies in the following circumstances - if he meets an accidental death, if he dies without his consecrations being performed, or if he is killed by a wild animal. But, if 'Shraddh rituals' of that person are performed at 'Gaya' then the soul of such a man will get rid of the tortures of the hell and will go to heaven. Performing 'Shraddh rituals' here is of great importance as it helps one to get rid of 'pitra rinna' i.e. debts towards one's ancestors (male forefathers).
Nearby Bodh Gaya ("Buddha Gaya"), so named to distinguish it from the Hindu town centre of Gaya, is one of the four holiest sites of Buddhism and the site where the Buddha attained enlightenment.[10][11]

Gaya is situated at Bihar State. You can go there by train and gaya junction is a big railway station. From Kolkata or from Delhi meny more train passes through this station ( including Rajdhani Express ). This place is famous for Pind Daan for whom who passes away . There are meny Ashram and Hotels where you can with very reasonable rate . We have stayed at Bharat Sevashram . This is very nice to stay and all rooms are clean , spacious and peacefull. Also maharaj and others are very polite and helpful. If you reach there you have no tension about pind daan. They provide panditji for all this pujas etc. with minimum amount. They also provide you lunch. we are satisfied. From this Ashram you can hire car or auto to go Falgu River to compleate Pind daan and Pandit ji guide you and he will purchase all the things with the amount which you have paid at Bharat Sevashram ( no extra amount to be paid ) . When you reach Falgu River Some panditji ask you about your residence for whom Pind Daan to be done. After that they try to find this from their copy and in 90% case they able to find the address and pind daan to be started. After Pind Daan you fills better and give respect for whom you provide Pind Daan. After Pind Daan it is not necessary for Sraddha every Year. But avoid from cheating at different Mandir and some Pandas. After Completion you can visit Buddha Gaya which is at some distance from Gaya . Buddha Gaya is very very nice place and temples of Sri Buddha surely Cheremed you , don,t miss.
