Earlier before freedom Chandrashekhar Azad park was known as Alfred Park. Freedom fighter Azad was encircled by British police so he shot dead by his own colt pistol on 27/02/1931. On this day he went to Anaand bhawan and requested Nehru ji to save the live of Bhagat, sukdeo & rajguru from sentence of death. There are some rumour that Nehru ji informed the SP through Birbhadra Tiwari that Azad ( a person related to Kakori, parliament bomb and Lahore conspiracy) is present at Allahabad.
